Today ESRI has released a new version of their 3D toolset. This is a special toolset designed to extend the LiDAR capabilities of ArcGIS Desktop. It can be found at: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=fe221371b77940749ff96e90f2de3d10
There some significant tools here which help with LiDAR and 3D analysis. Often I get asked can you classify LiDAR in ArcGIS. The answer to this has been yes but limited. Well now this toolset offers tools to classify rooftops, ground, by height and overlaps in single or many LAS files.
It offers some exciting analysis tools including the ability to extract building footprints in a LAS file, calculate proximity of 3D features for example vegetation encroachment on power lines and create 3D profiles.
While the LiDAR management tools simply make LAS maintenance so much simpler.
If you use LiDAR in ArcGIS desktop then these tools are well worth a look.
