Have you got the latest service pack installed?
This is one of the first questions we ask of you when you log a support call but it’s maybe not as easy to tell as you’d think! The easiest way to tell if you’ve got any service packs installed onto ArcGIS Desktop is to open up ArcGIS Administrator (Desktop Administrator pre-10). It’ll show you on the right hand side what service pack you’ve got installed (if any). Service pack 3 for ArcGIS 10.0 is scheduled to be released in October, 2011, and includes many fixes for targeted issues.
Another thing that’s worth noting is that at version 10.0 you can actually uninstall individual service packs to Add or Remove Programs. More often than not, all the service packs do is fix stuff but it’s only ever tested against the core software. So if you’ve got any customisations or use any third party products in ArcGIS and things start to go a bit haywire after installing a Service Pack then try uninstalling it and seeing if everything works again.
If you have additional enhancements or ideas that you would like to see included in future service packs or releases, please post them on the ArcGIS Ideas site.
